Day 8/21

bricin:

Took a rest day after 7 days straight of exercise. I walked a little, ate a healthy breakfast and lunch, then the wheels came off.

We had a rough afternoon and as a result the family hunkered down with pizza, gelato, and several episodes of 30 Rock. Frankly I think Mark Sisson would have agreed with the decision. Some times you just need to get cozy.

Day 14/21

Lost count there… These challenges are hard mostly because life gets busy. Let’s see… I ate a sub sandwich Friday, going to Jersey Mike’s is something with the kids. Bread once a week won’t kill me, right? Maybe not but I sure do notice a weight difference. Could be lots of things there of course.

227.1 on the scale this morning. I worked out 4 times and ran once this week. Just goes to show you can’t run/exercise yourself to skinny.

Day 7/21

Not terrible. Six mile run, good food for the most part. Stayed up too late for a Sunday with a party of people over.

1 month view tracking my weight. As my friend Sam noted I really need to add a data point for Weight or BMI. What it also shows is that weighing yourself every morning is not fun since the changes are likely to be gradual.

Day 5/21

225.8 which is the same as yesterday. I wonder if my scale has a memory? Seems weird to be that precise (.8 pounsds) for more than a day at a time.

Breakfast was a burrito from Whole Foods again, on the run. Lunch was a nice beef stew. It was Friday, we went out to dinner… dang, burger and fries. Not primal at all. Flag on the play.

Day 4/21

Day 4/21

Up early for the gym today as I have early meetings. I try to avoid going to the gym this early, I much prefer 7:30. Going this early also means I grabbed food on the go, never a good thing.

I managed to eat a salad for lunch, good call. But dinner… Ugh burger and fries. That’s my first big slip up. That said, back on the wagon; usually after a diet misstep I eat badly for a few days. Reminder – no cheat days.

Day 3 / 21

Day 3/21

Weight held steady at 224.6 which is fine; beats going the other way. I’m nervous about today as I didn’t pack a lunch. When I pack food and snacks I can stay on track, little willpower needed. Hitting cafeterias is a lot harder as it’s easiest to grab bad food, quickly.

3 scoops of peanut butter as the hungries continue.

Dinner was taco salad. Few glasses of wine. Fell asleep around 10pm, still need to get better about sleeping earlier.

npr:

California is parched. Wells are running dry. Vegetable fields have been left fallow and lawns are dying. There must be some villain behind all this, right?

Of course there is. In fact, have your pick. As a public service, The Salt is bringing you several of the leading candidates. They have been nominated by widely respected national publications and interest groups.

There’s just one problem: Not all of these shady characters live up to their nefarious job description. Let us explain.

The short answer… Is people are growing too much in a place that doesn’t have very much water.
