Filling a City With Moving Walkways: not a good idea
The original article questioned “is this a good idea”? The answer of course is almost certainly not. As noted it makes the city uglier by most definitions. But more-over it encourages people to walk *less*. In the modern world there aren’t many places where people need to walk less and Spain, at #12 on the obesity index, certainly could use a bit more exercise.
Walking hills is hard. It is tiring. So the correct solution in terms of urban planning would be signs that simply say “slow down”. Or to put a few benches along the side and let people rest on the way up.
What is interesting is that there is no mention of this “walk-a-lator” on Wikipedia.
